Video Poker is a beloved game that usually will be gambled on in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your personal computer, through a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to get the highest mixture of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with competing players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A five card hand will then be "handed out" on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and enthusiasts will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Generally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can vary from game to game, so that experienced enthusiasts are able to choose the most beneficial ones every instance.

As soon as the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that might have been won. Additionally, several styles of the game give the gambler an opportunity to increase their profits, in which case another hand is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
