After the gambler has decided on which cards he or she wishes to retain, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are able to select the most money-making machine each instance.
As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that they may have won. Further, several styles of the game give the player a chance to increase their wins, in which situation another hand is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
